De Mar a Mar 2023

This cross-country footrace brought together 400 competitors of 8 nationalities; 41 Southern Californians and representatives of the Rarámuri community

 

The participants engaged in a sporting feat crossing the Baja California peninsula from the Pacific coast to the Sea of Cortez, crossing challenges along the way such as the Sierra de la Laguna, the most important natural reserve on the peninsula.

In the Women’s Master, the glory of the highest place on the podium went to Cibelle Hernández, one of the best distance runners in the world, followed by Ana Cecilia González Portillo from Jalisco and Elia Guzmán Manzano from Choy, who, like the rest of the winners, They received their recognition in a ceremony held this Sunday in the public square of the sugarcane community of Santeña.

The Mexican Eder Belmont and the Canadian Emelie Mann won the open category of the second edition of the Mar a Mar race that this Sunday culminated with reaching the finish line, after three days of competition, in the community of Todos Santos, La Paz.

Eder, with a time of 10 hours, 12 minutes and 40 seconds, became the two-time champion of this event, as he also climbed to the top of the podium at the Mar a Mar held last year.

In the men’s open category, second and third place went to Brandon Gardier from Canada and to the member of the Rarámuri community, Pedro Parra respectively, while in the women’s open category, 2nd and 3rd places went to the American Robyn Mildren and the Mexican Valentina F Guillén.

In the men’s master category, the winners were the South Californians Marco Antonio Benítez and Ernesto Rivas who made it 1-2, leaving third place to Javier Carvallo.
